Around 44 per cent of women are paying a mortgage in the UK compared to 37 per cent of men, a new survey has revealed.
The research, taken out by Fairinvestment.co.uk, found that even though 19 per cent more women owned houses than their masculine counterparts, the average female salary was still a quarter less than that owned by men across the country.
Chartered financial planner at the company Sharon Bratley said that the news was surprising as it highlighted how women were choosing a career that enabled them to invest in property.
She continued: "The figures could also suggest that women are better with the cash that they do have than men, considering they have less but still manage to buy a house which involves saving for a deposit."
Fairinvestment.co.uk recently said that the drastic measure from the Bank of England to cut the interest rate required banks to pass it on to customers quickly to see any benefit in the housing market.
